Discussions over April elections continue with EU

SANA'A, Jan. 21 (Saba) - Deputy Minister of Foreign Ali Muthana
Hassan met on Wednesday with an EU delegation, currently visiting
Yemen, to discuss issues related to the upcoming parliamentary
elections.

At the meeting, Muthana and the delegation exchanged viewpoints over
facilitations that must be provided by local authorities to succeed
the April elections as well as support the European Union may
provide for monitoring the elections.

An EU delegation, led by Patrick Dupont, the European Commission
representative in the Directorate General for External Relations, is
currently visiting Yemen to discuss with Yemeni officials current
preparations for the April 27 elections.

The European Union earlier announced within its support for
democracy in Yemen it will contribute to monitoring the 2009
parliamentary elections, through providing international observers,
urging the political parties in the country to agree on all matters
over the elections.
