SHABWA, Jan. 21 (Saba) - After second 2009 foreigner abduction was
confirmed, a German engineer who was kidnapped three days ago along
with two Yemeni companions by tribesmen in Shabwa province has been
released unharmed.

Governor of Shabwa Ali Hassan al-Ahmadi has met with a German
engineer Florance Ruzon and talked to him after the incident.

At the meeting, al-Ahmedi expressed his regret over the abduction,
assuring engineer Florance Ruzon the abductors would be arrested and
brought to justice.

For his part, Ruzon hailed efforts Yemeni security forces made to
release him.

Minister of Oil Salim al-Aidrus and Germany's ambassador to Yemen
made phone calls with the engineer to inquire about him.

Three days ago, tribesman kidnapped a German engineer along with two
Yemeni companions while they were on a highway connecting the Azzan
and Al Nudba districts in Shabwa province.

The kidnapping was the second in the new year in the same province
and comes almost two weeks after tribesmen abducted a S. African
tourist mother along with her two kids.

They were released three days later through tribal mediation.

In relation to foreign abductions in Yemen a phenomenon which has
declined in recent years, late last year, three German nationals
were taken hostage in Sana'a province.

The main reason for foreign kidnapping in the country is to put
pressure on the government to meet demands of tribal elders or
people.
