SCER's chairman meets EC delegation
SANA'A, Jan.21 (Saba) - Chairman of Supreme Commission for Elections
and Referendums (SCER) Khaled al-Sharif met here on Wednesday the
elections' official in the European Commission (EC) Foreign
Relations Department Patrick Donate and the accompanied delegation.
The meeting dealt with the arrangements related to participation of
European Union's (EU) election observation mission according to the
SCER's invitation to the EU for getting acquaintance with and
observing the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The meeting also reviewed the practical and technical procedures
taken by the SCER regarding the special recommendations mentioned in
the report of EU election observation mission on the last
presidential and local elections in 2006.
Al-Sharif briefed the EU delegation on the efforts carried out by
the SCER in preparing for the upcoming parliamentary elections and
the results of reviewing and amending voters' registration process
as well as the process of electronic reviewing the electoral
registration.
On behalf of SCER, al-Sharif welcomed again the EU participation in
observing the upcoming elections, assuring that the SCER is
concerned that the international organizations take part in all
leaps of electoral process depending on the transparency to do all
its constitutional and lawful tasks .
Al-Sharif pointed that the SCER will offer all needful assistances
for the EU mission to do its works and to get all information
related to the electoral process easily.
For his part, the EC's official expressed the appreciation of EC for
the SCER's invitation to participate in observing the upcoming
parliamentary elections, considering that is an evidence of Yemen's
concern and pledge to develop the democratic process.
On the other hand, the EC's official praised the leaps and actions
taken by the SCER regarding the recommendations which come in the
report of EU election observation mission on the previous elections.
