Polish President To Visit Indonesia
JAKARTA, Oct 17 (Antara) - Polish President Andrzej Duda is set to visit Indonesia next year, according to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.
The visit will help enhance relations between the two countries,
the ministry said in a press statement released on Saturday, adding that the Polish president will be leading a business delegation to Indonesia.
The ministry said the visit plan came about when Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi met with Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Joanna Wronecka on the sidelines of the 21st ASEAN-European Union Ministerial Meeting held in Bangkok.
Wronecka noted that relations between Indonesia and Poland have been running well, with trade between the two countries showing a positive trend.
Indonesia is one of Poland's strategic partners in Asia, she acknowledged.
At the meeting, the governments of the two countries underscored the importance of strengthening connectivity, including cooperation between Indonesian and Polish airline companies, in this case Garuda Indonesia and LOT Polish Airlines.
Hopefully, the cooperation between the two airlines will lead to the opening of a direct flight route from Warsaw to Jakarta or Denpasar.
The two also discussed international issues of mutual concern, including the latest situation in Palestine and the commitment of the two countries to always support Palestine.
Poland is Indonesia's third largest trade partner in Central and East Europe, with the value of bilateral trade reaching US$539.71 million in 2014.
Just in 2014, Indonesia recorded a surplus of US$252.18 million in its trade with Poland.
Polish investment in Indonesia was recorded at US$6.4 million in 2014.
