Blix urges Obama to find peaceful solution to Iran nuclear issue
Vienna, Jan 21, IRNA - Former Director General of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Hans Blix hoped Tuesday evening that the new President of the US, Barack Obama, would find a peaceful solution to Iran?s nuclear issue.
Addressing the Interlocken conference in Swiss, Blix criticized the
former US president George W. Bush?s administration for its hostile
approach towards Iran.
?The Bush administration avoided holding talks with Iran and chose
ways of boycotting the country and positioning troops? in the region,
Blix said.
He added that the major difference between Bush and President Obama is
that the latter ?is prepared to enter direct talks with Iran.?
Blix added that avoiding negotiations would lead to no where while
better situations could be found through diplomatic negotiations.
Barack Obama who won a landslide victory with a promise of ?change",
took office as the 44th US president at midday on Tuesday.
