Vietnam, Belgium sign MOU on migration

Brussels (VNA) - Representatives of Vietnam and Belgium signed a memorandum of
understanding (MOU) on migration issues in Brussels on Jan 19.

At the signing ceremony, Vietnamese ambassador in Belgium Nguyen Manh Dung and
Belgian Minister for Migration and Asylum Turtelboom Annemie said the MOU is
another step to further the cordial bilateral ties between the two countries.

The signing of the MOU represented the two sides' wishes to strengthen cooperation
in the field of migration, particularly in facilitating legal migration,
preventing illegal immigration and ensuring the repatriation of illegal
immigrants, they said.

Vietnam is the first nation in Asia to sign such a MOU with Belgium on
migration issues. The Vietnamese-Belgian MOU is effective for five years and will
be automatically extended every five years unless either side wants to end or
amend it.-Enditem
