India, Mukherjee said, was upgrading and strengthening
the anti-terror mechanism and it was continuing its diplomatic
efforts to counter the menace.
His statements come in the wake of Pakistan admitting
that New Delhi had given it enough evidence of elements from
its soil involved in the Mumbai terror attacks last November
26.
Pakistan had also announced that it would willing
cooperate with Indian investigators in the role of terror
elements from Pakistan and allow them access.
Talking about the emerging geopolitics and economic
situation, Mukherjee called for redrawing the world order,
particularly global institutions such as the IMF that were set
up in the post-world war II era to assist the war-ravaged
Europe, parts of Asia and Africa.
Stating that the issue of expanding the United Nation's
Security Council (UNSC) had been discussed for long, the
Minister said the time had come for a decision on it now.
India has been vociferous that the UNSC has to be
expanded to include new emerging powers in view of the
realities of the new world order.
In fact, countries like France have supported India's
claim to a permanent seat in the UNSC, while there have been
opposition to a change, from certain powers including
neighbouring China. PTI NCB
