Central province asked to focus on sustainable development

Quang Tri (VNA) - Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh has suggested that the central province of Quang Tri bring into full play its advantages for sustainable development.

During his visit to the province on January 17 and 18, the Party leader said Quang
Tri in deciding on investment should focus on modern technologies and high-quality
products, rather than the project scale.

The location that stretches along the national highway No.1A with the South-North
rail road and the East-West corridor axis which connects to neighbouring countries
is a remarkable advantage that the province should make use of, Manh said.

The Party leader stressed the importance of sustainable development in
agriculture, the protection of watershed forests and a long-sighted vision in
industrial planning, for not only Quang Tri province but also the whole central
region.

Regarding the social policies, the General Secretary asked the provincial Party
Committee and authorities to pay more attention to war martyrs' families, invalids
and those with merits for the country's revolution, as well as the work of hunger
elimination and poverty alleviation, particularly in mountainous areas. It is
necessary that "every family and every person may enjoy Tet," the Party leader
said.

Over the last three years, Quang Tri province maintained an average economic
growth rate of 11.2 percent. It is home to several industrial zones and complexes,
such as Nam Dong Ha, Quan Ngang, Dien Sanh and Dong Le, as well as the 64 MW Quang
Tri hydropower plant.

During his trip, the Party leader visited the ancient citadel of Quang Tri, Martyr
Cemeteries of Truong Son and Road 9 and the Memorial House of late Party General
Secretary Le Duan. He also visited and presented gifts to social policy
