Hanoi (VNA) - Two Thai footballers have been granted Vietnamese citizenship, the Hoang Anh-Gia Lai Club said on Jan. 15.
The two players, who have been playing for five years here, will bear the first
name of the chairman of the V-League Club, Doan Nguyen Duc.
Nirut Surasiang's new Vietnamese name is Doan Van Nirut while Sakda Joemdee's is
Doan Van Sakda.
With Thai-Vietnamese players Nirut and Sakda, the former V-League champions will
be able to have five foreign-born players on the pitch, a considerable advantage
over other football teams.
The club may eventually have six foreign-born players if American footballer Lee
Nguyen, who will officially sign a contract with the club on Jan. 17, becomes a
Vietnamese citizen on April 1, pursuant to the Nationality Law.-Enditem
