Nepal Police busted Indo-Nepal abduction network

Kathmandu, Jan 17 (PTI) Nepal police have claimed to
have busted a gang of extortionists with the arrest of five
people including an Indian.

Udaya Shetty, the arrested Indian national was the
mastermind of the gang which was involved in the abduction of
members of business community in Kathmandu and Terai districts
for ransom.

The Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Hanumandhoka,
made public the members of the gang amid a press conference
here Friday.

According to police the arrested gang members are
34-year-old Shetty of Mumbai, India; 25-year-old Prahlad Mahat
and 29-year-old Bikas Karki of Sarlahi; 30-year-old Bishnu
G.C. of Palpa and 24-year-old Tashi Gurung of Lamjung.

Investigation officer, Police Inspector Krishna Prasad
Koirala said that a search was going on for the rest of the
members of the gang who are absconding.

Those absconding include Binod Karki of Rautahat,
Kumar Budhathoki of Sarlahi, Anil Gurung of Nuwakot and
Sanjaya alias Bangur of Chitwan. Inspector Koirala said
investigation has revealed that the gang has collected sum of
Rs 26.9 million as ransom.

Police said an amount of Rs 811,735, a silver
coloured Maruti van, two motorcycles, one pistol, cartridges
and the narcotics substance brown sugar were confiscated from
them.

In view of the deteriorating law and order situation
in the capital, the police has added 48 more Close Circuit TV
in different places of Kathmandu, according to officials.
There are already 13 such CC TV are in operation currently.
These CC TV have been installed in different sensitive places
within the Ring Road area including the areas where VVIPs are
residing, the police said. PTI SBP
