WA trains slow down in extreme heat

Searing heat slowed down trains as well as people in Western Australia on Friday.
Transperth said second-stage heat restrictions were enforced from about 12.30pm
(WDT) as temperatures hit 40 degrees celsius.
Transperth spokesman David Hynes said the speed limit for trains was reduced by
20km/h from the maximum speed under the restrictions.
The restrictions would mean delays of up to 15 minutes for some commuters, Mr Hynes
said.
"Because the speed restriction has a cumulative effect, delays range up to 15
minutes towards the end of the train's journey in each direction," he said.
"This can affect connections to other services."
Mr Hynes said Transperth, like other rail authorities, reduced the speed of its
trains in hot weather as a precautionary measure in case the tracks buckled.
