SNACC, UNDP discuss technical cooperation
SANA'A, Jan.14 (Saba)- Head of Supreme National Anti-Corruption
Commission (SNACC) Ahmed al-Anesi discussed on Wednesday with UNDP's
Resident Representative in Sana'a Ms. Pratibha Mehta strengthening
cooperation in technical areas of combating corruption.
Al-Anesi said that the UN is one of the most highlight sources SNACC
could depend in carrying out its tasks and plans, benefiting from
the UNDP technical experiences and advice.
The Yemeni official also affirmed that SNACC seeks to activate the
International Anti-corruption Agreement's articles which Yemen had
signed.
For her part, deputy Head of SNACC Dr. Balquis Abu Osba indicated
that Yemen and the UN are partners in applying the International
Anti-corruption Agreement, saying that SNACC had started carrying
out distinguished steps in cooperation with the international
organization within an information project which aims to activate
the Civil Society Organizations' anti-corruption role.
"SNACC has a strong partnership with the UN office in Vienna, of
which the most highlighted results is launching the Arab Network for
Promoting Integrity and Combating Corruption in which Yemen had been
elected as Vice-Chairman of the network", Abu Osba added.
The UN official praised Yemen's approval on the International
Anti-corruption Agreement and establishing an independent commission
for this purpose, assuring the UN readiness for supporting SNACC in
the technical areas, forming supporting groups and strengthening the
national and non-governmental participation in combating corruption.
"The Yemeni anti-corruption experience is still new and needs much
support. The UN can offer a big support to Yemen through a group of
the international organizations which work in this field", the UN
official said.
