Thai PM assures investors of commitment to economic rehabilitation

BANGKOK, Jan 16 (TNA) – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Thursday assured investors of his government's commitment to accelerating economic rehabilitation and restoring unity and confidence in the country.

Delivering a speech on "Fending Off Economic Crisis in Thailand" to securities executives and fund managers, he said that resuscitating the economy and restoring unity and confidence are a key mission the government had clearly pledged to carry out since it took office.

"We have made people around the world aware that the situation in Thailand has already returned to normal by affirming our readiness to host the ASEAN Summit during February 27-28 and March 1. Leaders of 10 ASEAN members have already confirmed they will attend the meeting," he said.

Mr. Abhisit said the government had already prepared the administration plan and submitted it to the cabinet for consideration.

In addition, it had arranged the mid-year budget for consideration in the House of Representatives meeting on January 28.

The prime minister said he expected the money would enter the system gradually, but soon, and that he believed a certain amount would be distributed into the rural areas.

"We want to ask investors to consider in all aspects what the government has done to solve economic problems. They should not focus on a particular issue," he said, but look at the broader perspective.

"Now, some people complain that the government is assisting only a certain group of people. They do not know that giving assistance to one group of people will have a positive effect on another group of people as well," said the premier. (TNA)
