Government departments in Dubai observe solidarity day in support of Gazan children

Dubai, Jan 15, 2009 (WAM) - Various governments in Dubai observed yesterday a solidarity day in support of the children in Gaza, where the Israeli army continue to pound wantonly killing and wounding hundreds of women and children.

The solidarity day was announced by the General Secretariat of the Executive Council of the emirate of Dubai to express support to the Palestinian children in Gaza.

The move is one of the many activities being initiated in UAE in response to the directives of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to support the Palestinian people.

The solidarity day is part of a broader programme ordered by Dubai Crown Prince HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to be observed under the title 'Children of Gaza are our children'.

All the various government departments took part in the solidarity day events which included charity fundraising, awareness creation programmes and exhibitions.

The event will be observed also on Thursday in coordination with all various government departments in the emirate of Dubai.

In an earlier statement, the Secretary General of the Dubai Executive Council Ahmed Bin Bayat said that the solidarity day is a humanitarian initiative which reflects the feelings of the Emirati society towards the displaced people of Palestine in Gaza.

The employees at the government departments thanked the executive council for this move as part of the broader initiatives of UAE to help the people of Palestine.
