IIPU extraordinary meeting on Gaza opens
Istanbul, Jan 14, IRNA - The extraordinary session of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) opened here Wednesday morning to explore ways to put an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
A ranking Iranian delegation led by Iran?s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani
is attending the session.
During the meeting, parliament speakers of the IIPU member states will
discuss ways to put pressure on Israel to stop crimes against humanity
and war crimes in Gaza.
Larijani is to deliver a speech during the meeting, which is presided
over by Algerian Speaker Abdelaziz Ziari.
The Iranian Majlis Speaker arrived in Turkey yesterday and met and
conferred with the Turkish President Abdullah Gull, Prime Minister
Recep Teyyep Erdogan and his counterpart.
He will also hold meetings with other speakers present at the event on
the sidelines of the session.
30 delegations from different IIPU member states are taking part in
the meeting 17 of which are headed by Speakers.
The statement being drafted by the participants is expected to condemn
Tel Aviv leaders for bombardment of civilians living in Gaza Strip.
Israeli leaders killed or maimed several hundred children and women in
Gaza since December 27.
The U.N. said that 300 of those killed in Israeli bombardments are children.
Iran is mulling an international demand to be made to the
International Criminal Court, the United Nations Court specialized in
war crimes, to bring to justice the Israeli leaders for the crimes
against humanity they perpetrated in Gaza.
