Yemen, UNHCR discuss refuges' needs in Kharaz camp
LAHJ, Jan.13 (Saba) - The Governor of Lahj province Mohsen al-Naqeeb
discussed in Aden on Tuesday with officials from UN High
Commissioner for Refuges the special needs of refuges in Kharaz camp
and neighboring villagers.
The meeting dealt with issues related to the UNHCR missions in the
governorate and refuges conditions in Yemen, particularly in Kharaz
camp, out of which are the coordination and partnership between the
two sides and future projects mainly pinpointing the camp's borders
and area, building additional housing for security units, preparing
for holding a special workshop for dealing with government's needs,
as well as the refuges sneaking process to the main town in Aden,
Lahj and other governorates.
During the meeting with the Deputy Director of UNHCR office Nabeel
Othman in Sana'a and Director of UNHCR office in Aden Liala Nasif
and the government part in the UNHCR, al-Naqeeb assured that the
government and local authority in the governorate are interested in
helping the UNHCR office and facilitating all obstacles before them
to carry out their tasks and offer the entire care for Somali and
African refuges in the camp of Kharaz, pointing that the camp needs
some infrastructure projects in waters, electricity, roads, health
and education areas .
For his part, Othman appreciated the help and support by the
governorate's leadership and local authority, indicating that the
meeting comes within the field visit of the joint committee from the
UNHCR office in Yemen, government and the other concerned parts to
the refuges camps and to get them acquainted with the report which
will be presented by the UNHCR office in Yemen to the UNHCR and
deals with preventing refuges form sneaking to Yemen and
suggested projects for improving their conditions .
