Special Mannequin Awes Visitors At Defence Services Exhibition

By Muhammad Audi Md Ghazali KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- A mannequin became one of the major attractions at an exhibition here when it reacted to the human touch with frowns and groans. The mannequin, referred to as a physiological model by distributor IDS Medical Systems and stationed at the Defence Services Asia 2016 exhibition, also reacts to drugs and interacts with humans, said S. Kiritharan, senior manager medical products of IDS Medical Systems. He said the model was installed with a guidance simulation system to teach people how to treat injuries. "This is interesting because we can put these simulators, which seem to be alive, in any scenario to test different types of health problems. "It’s a major step for anyone who is in medical practice to know what to do when a patient is not in good condition,” he told Bernama at the exhibition at the Putra World Trade Centre. The medical simulation training scenarios are for medicine, nursing, health sciences, hospital systems and the military, he said. "Even on the field, they (medical officers) practise this simulation to make sure they know the mechanism of healthcare to save someone’s life. "They have very limited time to save patients in an emergency due to the geographical situation and safety aspect," he said. Kiritharan said teamwork played a major role in this training to make everything go smoothly. Through the simulation training, the officers would know which area to improvise at the next session, and from there they will learn something new and make less mistakes, he added. This mannequin comes in various models with their own functionality for medical and healthcare education, he said. Kiritharan said the International Medical University and Taylor’s University were using these simulator models for medical students to get the experience of dealing with actual patients.
