Wages of Indonesian Migrant Workers are Highest in the World
Taipei, Taiwan, Apr 15 (Antara) - The wages of Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan, as compared to their counterparts from other countries, are highest in the world, with a minimum salary of 17 thousand Taiwan dollars, or US$524.5.
Devriel Sogia, head of Labor of the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office in Taipei, informed Antara during a visit to Taiwan to sign a cooperation agreement with the Global Workers' Organization on Thursday evening.
"The wages of Indonesian workers since 1997 was only 15,840 Taiwan dollars, and it was increased to 17 thousand Taiwan dollars since 2015," he noted.
According to Devriel, the minimum wages were raised after the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office recently met the personnel of several representative offices of other Asian countries to discuss the matter and submitted the results to the Taiwanese officials.
Devriel explained that the number of Indonesian workers in Taiwan currently reached 238 thousand, and they were favored by employers.
"Indonesian workers are known to be faithful and diligent," he pointed out.
On the occasion, Devriel also appealed to the Indonesian employment agencies in the country to prepare prospective workers, with a variety of skills to match the requirements of destination countries, who can be sent abroad.
"The important aspect is preparing their mentally to avoid a cultural shock in the destination countries," Devriel added.
The Indonesia office continues to bring religious teachers from the homeland to enlighten and offer guidance to Indonesian workers in Taiwan.
