RCA, UNRWA discuss joint efforts in support of Gazans

Abu Dhabi, Jan 13, 2009 (WAM) - The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), have discussed joint efforts to help alleviate the sufferings of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The came during a visit yesterday to the RCA headquarters here in Abu Dhabi by UNRWA Representative, Peter Ford, who praised the UAE for its rapid humanitarian response and initiative to reach out to the Gazans in their current predicament by providing the essential needs for thousands of Gazan families suffering from various kinds of tragic situations as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza.

Ford reiterated the need for strong cooperation among international organisations to alleviate the sufferings of people in distress. He cited as good example the existing coordination between the RCA and the UNRWA.

In his statement, RCA's Deputy Secretary General for Relief Affairs and Projects, Salim Al-Junaibi, who received Ford at the RCA premises, said the humanitarian situation in Gaza currently tops his outfit's list of priorities. He said there is the need to move fast to deliver the necessary relief supplies and all other essential needs in Gaza, particularly medical needs.

He said his outfit had also drawn up plans for future relief projects in Gaza, including the reconstruction of schools, hospitals and houses, adding that the RCA will never hesitate in doing all it can to alleviate the sufferings of the Palestinian people, particularly those in Gaza.
