Emirates mobile hospital to be launched in three African countries
WAM Abu Dhabi, 12th Jan. 2009 (WAM) -- The Emirates mobile hospital, the world's first civilian field hospital, will be launched in the first phase in three African countries, chief of the humanitarian medical initiative announced today.
Dr. Adel Al Shamri, Executive Director of the Zayed Charity Initiative, which is managing the project, said in the current period the hospital would be commissioned in Morocco, Eritrea and Egypt.
"The launch will be made under a well-studied plan that caters for the needs of these countries over three years. The hospital will be launched in three countries every year,''he added following the first joint coordinating meeting with officials from Abu Dhabi Police's Medical Services Directorate.
Dr. Al Shameri appreciated efforts being made by Lt.General H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, for provision of medical and logistic support for the ambitious medical project.
''The project will highlight the UAE's major role on international humanitarian services and as a leader in reaching out to underprivileged population and those in need across the world irrespective of their race or faith,'' he affirmed.
Brigadier Salim Al Junabi, Director of Abu Dhabi Police's Medical Services Directorate, said the meeting aimed to identify the requirements the Directorate could offer to the project from doctors, nursing staff and equipment so as to enable the hospital deliver its services to needy patients.
