Police arrest Roberta Williams' son

Police have charged the son of gangland figure Roberta Williams over a recent spate
of burglaries around Melbourne.
Ms Williams' son Tye Stephens, 23, and another man, Daniel Warwick, 27, were charged
with a string of burglary and theft offences after being interviewed by detectives
for most of Monday.
Stephens, of Pascoe Vale, and Warwick, of Footscray, will appear in Melbourne
Magistrates Court on Tuesday, each facing more than 30 charges.
Detectives raided the property of Ms Williams, former wife of gangland killer Carl
Williams, in Bell Street, Pascoe Vale South, just after 5am (AEDT) on Monday to look
for stolen property.
They arrested the men near the house, which is not believed to be Stephens' home.
The charges relate to commercial burglaries around Melbourne.
Ms Williams was home at the time, cooperated with police and was not arrested.
At the house on Monday afternoon, detectives removed a large garden-style bin and
several paper bags filled with cash and goods, including bolt cutters.
The property was removed from an old-style caravan sitting in Ms Williams' driveway,
alongside two other vehicles.
A series of commercial burglaries occurred overnight in Melbourne's north and east
but it is believed investigators had started an operation at least a fortnight ago
over other burglaries.
A police helicopter was used in the operation.
Police spoke to someone inside the house, believed to be Ms Williams, for about half
an hour. A young man in the house told media to "go away".
Children perched on a window sill on the second floor of the house threatened to
throw flour bombs on reporters and photographers as they attempted to speak to her.
Two men, who said they were from a finance company, arrived at the house on Monday
afternoon to attempt to repossess a BMW on which Ms Williams is believed to owe
money.
The men told reporters they had been looking for her for "some time" but did not
know her address until they heard about Monday's incidents.
Neighbours later reported seeing Ms Williams scaling a back fence and jumping into a
car.
Her ex-husband Carl is serving a 35-year sentence in Barwon prison for the gangland
murders of Lewis and Jason Moran, Mark Mallia and Michael Marshall.
It was reported on the weekend that Carl and his father George Williams, who is also
in jail for drug-related offences, were taken out of prison for eight days over
Christmas period.
A newspaper (Herald-Sun) alleged the pair were giving information to police about
serving corrupt police officers.
