S. Korea to issue up to 86.3 tln won in state bonds for 2009

SEOUL, Jan. 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korea plans to issue up to 86.3 trillion won
(US$63.5 billion) worth of state bonds in 2009 to help finance government
spending, the finance ministry said Monday.
Of the envisioned debt sale, the ministry said that it will issue 74.3 trillion
won worth of Treasury bonds this year, up from 52.1 trillion won sold a year
earlier.
In addition, around 12 trillion won worth of national housing bonds aimed at
financing construction will be issued, compared with 8.5 trillion won last year.
The ministry said that it also plans to sell up to $6 billion worth of currency
stabilization bonds denominated in dollars and foreign currencies this year. Last
year, no such bonds were issued.
