Rare surgery performed at city hospital
Noida, Jan 11 (PTI) Doctors of a city-based hospital in
India's northern part Sunday claimed to have performed a rare
gall bladder stone surgery on a 60-year-old man with situs
inversus, a medical condition in which the organs are placed
reverse to the normal positions in a human body.
S C Anand, diagnosed with situs inversus last month
after he complained of abdomen pain, was operated on Thursday.
"Such type of disorder occurs once in 10,000 cases.
Developing gall bladder stones in this condition makes the
diagnosis and treatment all the more difficult," Dr A P S
Bedi, who led the team of doctors which performed the surgery
in Metro Multi-speciality Hospital, said.
There is higher risk of bleeding in such type of cases as
compared to normal laproscopic removal of gall bladder, Bedi
added.
On January 3, a similar surgery was performed at All
India Institue Of Medical Sciences on a 55-year-old woman. PTI
