S. Korean film 'Treeless Mountain' hits screens at Santa Barbara festival



SEOUL, Jan. 8 (Yonhap) -- "Treeless Mountain," a South Korean movie about two
orphaned sisters taken in by an alcoholic aunt, has been invited to compete in
this year's Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF), organizers said
Thursday.
Directed by Kim So-yong, the film will be screened alongside 12 other movies,
including Israeli film "Lost Islands" and "A Woman in Berlin" from Germany, in
the International Features Competition section of the festival, according to
SBIFF's Web site.
Two other South Korean movies, "The Divine Weapon" and "Our Town," have been
invited to the festival's East X West section.
The 24th SBIFF will feature over 200 films including 21 world premiers, 29 U.S.
premiers and a selection of films representing 41 countries.
The festival, established in 1985, will run for 11 days beginning Jan. 22.
