Ombudsman receives rights committee members

Manama, Jan. 27 (BNA): Ombudsman Nawaf Mohammed Al-Maawda received here today the members of the Human Rights Committee at the Council of Representatives, led by MP Nasser Al-Qaseer.
MPs Mohammed Al-Jowdar, the committee deputy chairman, Mohammed Al-Ma’arifi, Majeed Al-Asfoor and Abdulrahman Bu Majeed were also present.
Al-Maawda expressed delight at the existing communication and positive cooperation between the Human Rights Committee and the Office of the Ombudsman. He also valued highly the positive role played by the panel while discussing the proposal on the government’s preparation of a comprehensive strategy including the necessary mechanisms, procedures and plans to deal with the human rights reports issued on Bahrain.
He said the Office of the Ombudsman welcomed all efforts and steps aiming to consolidate the human rights principles in all work and social fields, stressing that success in this regard requires cooperation and coordination among all relevant sides.
He affirmed that human rights issues cover all walks of life and require concerted efforts in order to create a suitable environment to respect them and promote its culture among community members.
Committee chairman Nasser Al-Qaseer highlighted the panel’s keenness on extending bridges of cooperation with all human rights-related institutions and agencies in the kingdom to explore their opinions and programmes to consolidate human rights, on the one hand, and to agree on a mechanism to respond to human rights reports issued on the kingdom in order to refute fallacies and highlight Bahrain’s rich record of human rights achievements, on the other. He stressed that Bahrain is a human rights leader and an advanced regional role model.
