Dubai Cares joins UAE-based humanitarian Organisations in a united front against aggression in Gaza

Dubai, Jan 8, 2009 (WAM) - Dubai Cares is joining a united front of UAE-based relief and charitable organisations to pledge humanitarian assistance and mobilise the UAE community to help alleviate the suffering of children in Gaza.

H.E. Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State '&' Chairperson of the Board of Dubai Cares stated: "We are closely monitoring the situation and are gravely concerned with the ongoing deterioration of the plight of innocent civilians in Gaza. We are committed to helping the children of Gaza deal with this horrific trauma. We join hands with our other partner Organisations to respond to this plight. We are honoured to join this united front." Over 689 people have been killed and more than 3100 injured in just 12 days of fighting in Gaza, one of the most densely populated places in the world. Most of the causalities are civilians, bombed in their homes or after seeking refuge in United Nations compounds.

Al Hashimy: "We join our partners and the international community to ensure safe and free passage of humanitarian materials to Gaza and to recognize the sanctity of international institutions, such as the UN run schools, where innocent civilians are seeking refuge from the bombings." Yesterday, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Red Crescent Authority (RCA) and Head of the Office of Coordination of Foreign Aid announced the launch of a nation-wide relief campaign to raise donations in support of Palestinians in Gaza.

Dubai Cares is the world's largest charitable establishment solely devoted to improving primary education for underprivileged children. Its emergency interventions - which to date include interventions in Chad, Myanmar and Ethiopia - stems from its philosophy that guaranteeing the continuity of children's education is as important as ensuring their physical well being.
