Ashgabat, Jan 8, 2009 (WAM) - President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamdov received yesterday UAE Minister of Economy HE Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, who is visiting Ashgabat on top of high-level economic delegation.
Talks focused on mechanisms of boosting bilateral cooperation in areas of trade, economy and investment and the possibility of copying the UAE economic development model to Turkmenistan especially in sectors such as infrastructure, real estate, tourism, water desalination, energy and sewage treatment.
As he welcomed the UAE minister, the Turkmen president said he was satisfied with the progress in the UAE-Turkmenistan relations notably in economy.
He commended development efforts being made by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to upgrade health and social services and his policy to strengthen bilateral trade and economic bonds.
''Bilateral links are good and special and that both leaderships are determined to push them forward,''the Turkmen head of state affirmed.
He praised the UAE economic progress and wise policy under the stewardship of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
''The UAE has set an example of economic development to the whole world,'' he added.
He expressed his country's willingness to tap experience of UAE companies in economic development and diverse projects in oil and gas, transport and other areas.
''We are ready to extend all possible assistance and facilities that attract UAE investment into the Turkmen economy,'' he stressed, calling for a wider cooperation in the oil and gas industries.
''Turkmenistan is one of the world's key gas exporters and has a wide network of gas pipelines which could be extended to the Gulf region including the UAE,'' he added.
For his part, the UAE Minister of Economy said the UAE was keen to broaden the base of cooperation in areas of trade, economy and investment and clear all hindrances to facilitate smooth implementation of projects being carried out by UAE companies in Turkmenistan.
''Two way trade exchange is not only increasing but also doubling year after year, a clear signal of sustained progress in bilateral relations,'' he noted.
Al Mansouri called for reenergizing the joint economic ministerial committee, encouraging investment and increasing air flights between the two countries.
