SCH chief patronises cardiovascular conference

Manama, Jan. 24 (BNA): Under the patronage of Lt-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) and Chairman of the High Medical Committee, in association with the Mohammed bin Khalifa Cardiac Centre and Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular Reviews on January 27-30. This is the third year that this international meeting held in Bahrain, with the last year attracting more than 270 international and local physicians. Twelve speakers from Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minnesota will give 34 talks covering all aspects of cardiovascular medicine including coronary artery disease, heart failure, cardiovascular disease, congenital heart disease, electrical abnormalities of the heart, as well as the latest surgical and interventional procedures related to the heart. The faculty are world renowned experts in the field of cardiovascular medicine, who have been providing this extensive course for the last 20 years in Rochester, Minnesota. "We are lucky to have this meeting held outside the United States here in Bahrain for the third year running. It gives our physicians the chance to attend this scientific forum without the travel and financial costs of such a long trip, as well as helping to improve the standards of care given to our cardiac patients both in Bahrain and the region at large. This academic meeting would not have been possible without the financial and logistical support provided by the Mohammed bin Khalifa Cardiac Centre (MKCC), and its Director, Dr. Resan Al Badran. The Mohammed bin Khalifa Cardiac Centre ( MKCC) has education as one of its main missions, to both the local community and wider GCC, and holding this meeting is testament to that." We hope to see that this international meeting becomes a regular fixture in the academic calendar, to bolster Bahrain’s position as an academic hub in the field of cardiovascular medicine. This year we have extended the course to cover the latest advances in ultrasound imaging of the heart, as well as special question and answer sessions to prepare physicians sitting for their cardiology specialization exams. Also, as an extension of this academic co-operation between Mayo Clinic and the MKCC, Dr. Peter Brady from Mayo Clinic will perform several cardiac procedures over a 2 day period, in conjunction with our local cardiologists. This will help to expand technical skills and share experiences that will ultimately help in improving the best care possible to our patients in Bahrain.
