Bahrain, GCC human rights record commended

Manama, Jan.23 (BNA): Assistant Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabr Al Dossari, commended the Kingdom of Bahrain and GCC States’ Human Rights record that includes comprehensive legislations, executive, judicial, and independent institutions apparatuses that guarantee the respect of human rights and dignity, promotion of political and civil liberties, and his economic, social and cultural rights on the basis of equality and social justice.
He welcomed Bahrain’s hosting of the second "Human Rights in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)" Conference. The conference is being organized by the Arab Federation for Human Rights, in collaboration with the "Maan" Human Rights Society and the International Gulf Organization for Human Rights.
It has been held under the patronage of the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla with the participation of a wide variety of actors and institutions which reflects the partnership between the legislative and executive powers, and the national and international independent Human Rights organizations.
The Assistant Foreign Minister said that the Kingdom of Bahrain and the GCC states have made unmistakable achievements in the field of Human rights respect in line with the Islamic Sharia’ principles, their constitutions and advanced legislations and their voluntary international obligations and commitments within the United Nations and its specialized organizations, as well as a result of their active membership of the Human Rights Council membership and their responsible participation in the comprehensive Universal Periodical Review mechanisms.
He made reference to the GCC Human Rights Declaration that was endorsed at Doha Summit in December 2014 which demonstrated their Majesties and Highnesses leaders of the GCC States attention to the protection of Human Rights in line with the Internal Human Rights Declaration, the Arab Human Rights Charter, and Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam, as well as the relevant regional and international conventions and agreement.
Al-Dossari commended the humane GCC States’ initiatives to promote the culture of dialogue among religions and cultures and dissemination of tolerance and moderation that play an active role in the international alliance against terrorists to restore legitimacy to Yemen.
