Gulf Forum 2009 holds third session

Riyadh, January 06, SPA -- Gulf Forum 2009 "Gulf-U.S Relations after
Presidential Election" held here this evening its third session
titled "Towards a New Security Structure for the Gulf".

This session was presided over by Dr. Michael Yaffee, the Dean of
the Academy of the Near East and South Asia at the Center of
Strategic Studies at American National Defense University.
Risks facing the Gulf region were the main topic during the
discussions which considered that the security of the Gulf is a
sensitive issue, describing the region as a main region in a giant
global trade network.
Dr. Moustafa Al Ani, the Director of Security and Terrorism Studies
Program at the Gulf Research Center and one of its senior advisors,
expected that the new American Administration will replace the
military existence by a regional security system.
The former commander of U.S. Naval forces of the U.S. Central
Command Admiral Kevin Koskyrev explained in a lecture titled "Risks
and Challenges Across the Seas" the steps and strategies to support
maritime security in the Gulf.
