Rioters, vandals detained

Manama, Jan. 3 (BNA): Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs of the Interior Ministry said that in relation to the statement released by the ministry on January 2, several rioters and vandals have been detained along with a small number of people who misused social media for illegal purposes. The Assistant Undersecretary said the parents of several minors were also summoned, in accordance with Article 19 of Law 23 / 2013 amending the provisions of Decree Law 17 / 1976 on juveniles that states: "Imprisonment, fine or both is the penalty for the legal guardian of the juvenile who was warned but neglected the supervision of the minor such that the juvenile repeated the delinquency." The summoning is also based on Article 20 that states: "Imprisonment of not less than a year and not more than BD1000 fine or both will be given to the person who was given care of the juvenile but neglected his duties which led to the juvenile committing a crime or delinquency," he added. The Assistance Undersecretary reiterated that parents have a responsibility to protect their children from incitement by supervising their behaviour and preventing them from engaging in illegal activity.
