Illegal workers urged to benefit from the amnesty

Manama, Dec.27: The six-month general amnesty for workers staying in Bahrain illegally has so far benefited up to 8000 expatriates. The Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) finalised procedures which enabled them to leave Bahrain and return to their countries of origin ever since the grace period was announced last July. NPRA Assistant-Undersecretary for Exits, Search and Follow-up Brigadier Youssef bin Ahmed Al-Ghatam reported a big flux of illegal workers who want to benefit from the six-month amnesty either to leave Bahrain or swap employees. Brig. Al-Ghatam urged embassies to advise their respective expatriates to benefit from the grace period which will expire on Thursday (December31). He warned that the NPRA would continue the inspection campaigns to clampdown on lawbreakers and take legal action against them.
