Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Hesham bin Mohammed Al-Jowdar affirmed that holding the open sports festival is within the ministry's strategy to provide various youth and sports programmes for all age categories.
He added that participation in the event will be open to all, including citizens, expatriate communities, as well as ministries, government departments, embassies, private sector companies, schools, sports clubs, associations, among others.
He explained that the festival will feature programmes and competitions for men, women, children and people with disabilities, as well as health awareness programmes for all social segments. It will also include educational and awareness-raising programmes related to sports, health and nutrition, as well as entertaining, folk and mental games and competitions.
The minister stressed that the festival aims to strengthen harmony, intimacy and mutual understanding among all social segments, citizens and residents through providing entertaining sports activities that appeal to the participants.
It also aims to encourage people to practise sports, the minister added.
He indicated that the Ministry had already started forming the required committees. It has also taken the necessary administrative and organisational procedures to ensure that the festival achieves its noble goals.
