Life in jail for five terror defendants

Manama, Dec. 21 (BNA): Chief of the Terror Crime Prosecution Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadi said the High Criminal Court sentenced today five defendants, accused of making, possessing and using explosives, to life in jail . The case dates to June 4, 2014 when the defendants placed a handmade bomb on Al-Janabiya Highway in Budaiya that caused damage to the panes of one of the houses in the area. Investigations proved the complicity of the defendants in making the bomb and using it for terror purposes. The first defendant obtained a SIM card from a phone shop in Bani Jamra under the name of an Asian woman without her knowledge. He used the card in the phone linked to the bomb. The SIM card of the second defendant was also used in the phone. The first, second and fourth defendants worked together on making the bomb at the home of the third defendant and on testing the efficiency of the mobile. The accomplices placed the bomb on the highway in their attempt to kill police officers, undermine people's interests and spread panic by disrupting security. The prosecution relied in substantiating the accusations on the confessions of the first defendant and the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses. The court issued the verdict after putting the defendants on trial in the presence of their lawyers and providing them with all legal guarantees.
