Ombudsman receives GCC delegation

Manama, Dec 21 (BNA): Ombudsman Nawaf Al-Ma'awda has received a delegation from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reform and rehabilitation departments, on the sidelines of their participation in the Fourth GCC Inmates Week held under the theme "Together to achieve reform." Al-Ma'awda gave an overview of the Ombudsman's efforts in following up the reform and detention centres, as well as the main complaints cases and appeals for assistance made by the inmates to the Ombudsman Office, according to the Ombudsman's second annual report. He pointed out the cooperation between the Ombudsman's Office and Interior Ministry, including the Reform and Rehabilitation General Directorate. He praised the opportunities of exchanging expertise and work skills provided through the GCC Inmates Week for the promotion and respect of human rights and providing the basic care services for inmates. The GCC Week also offers opportunities to learn about the key programmes and plans for rehabilitating and reintegrating inmates into the community.
