GCC Inmates Week opens

Manama, Dec.20 (BNA): The fourth edition of the GCC Inmates Week opened today under the theme "Together to achieve reform". Interior Minister Undersecretary Major-General Khalid Salim Al-Absi inaugurated the event, being held in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states on December 20-23. Ombudsman Nawaf Al-Ma'awda, Royal Charity organisation (RCO) Secretary-General and Nasser Centre for Rehabilitation and Vocational Training Board of Trustees' Vice Chairman Dr. Mustapha Al-Sayyed and other officials attended. Maj.Gen Al-Absi addressed the event, commending the directives of Interior Ministry Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa to promote the rehabilitation of inmates, guarantee their rights and ensure them services and programmes which comply with international standards. Reform and Rehabilitation acting director-general stressed the commitment of the directorate to consolidate cooperation with human rights watchdogs and organisations as well as universities and academies to enhance the personnel's competence and ensure their professional development. An inmate recited a poem and a film was shown highlighting the role of the Reform and Rehabilitation Directorate. The patron then honoured the GCC delegations taking part in the inmates' week.
