Terror defendant sentenced for holding court in contempt

Manama, Dec. 13 (BNA): Prosecutor Mohammed Al-Nuaimi said the High Criminal Court had sentenced a defendant, tried for terror-related crimes, to one year in jail with immediate effect for holding the court in contempt. He added the defendant disdainfully applauded the three-year jail term handed down to him by the High Criminal Court during the trial. The Public Prosecution charged him with explicitly showing disrespect to the court and enforced Article 244 of the Penal Code. The defendant admitted the charge leveled against him and the court issued its one-year in jail term verdict to be served in addition to the previous ruling. Sentences in such cases are enforced with immediate effect even if they are challenged before the Court of Appeals.
