Seoul shares jump 2.29 pct in late morning

SEOUL, Jan. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks advanced 2.29 percent late Tuesday
morning as large-cap tech shares posted steep gains, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 26.91 points to
1,200.48 as of 11:20 a.m.
"Tech exporters led the overall rally as a rise in memory chip prices lifted
investor confidence," said Oh Jae-yol, an analyst at IBK Securities.
Big-cap information technology stocks surged across the board as rising chip
prices are expected to better their performance down the road.
As of Monday, the price of the benchmark DRAM chip soared 5.17 percent from the
end of December last year, according to Taiwanese market tracker Dramexchange.
The local currency was trading at 1,307.80 won to the U.S. dollar as of 11:20
a.m., up 5.7 won from Monday's close.
