Transportation minister attends IMOG Assembly in London

London, Dec. 5 (BNA): Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed headed Bahrain's delegation at the 29th General Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at its headquarters in London from 23rd November to 2nd December 2015. The meeting covered numerous topics related to the maritime industry, including preserving the marine environment, improving shipping safety and security, among other topics.. During the meeting, members of the Council for the next two years were elected. The Minister met the newly elected Secretary-General of the (IMO), Kitack Lim, and discussed Bahrain's efforts in implementing the technical and administrative requirements of the international conventions which Bahrain has Acceded to. He also shared with Mr. Lim the status of seafarers in Bahrain and their certifications, and discussed the development of the maritime infrastructure in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The minister highlighted the Ministry's future plans being implemented by the Ports and Maritime Affairs to develop bilateral relations as well as ways of benefiting from the technical support which is provided by the IMO to its members. Training programs and schemes such as Member States Audit, which will be implemented next year, were also reviewed. The delegation included Undersecretary of Ports and Maritime Affairs Hassan Ali Al Majid, Director of Ships Registration and Seamen, Mayas Al Mu'ataz, and Senior Officer Mohammed Al Murbati.
