Nation to invest 2.5 trillion VND in island districts' power grids

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam plans to spend 2.5 trillion VND (145 million USD) on the
development of power grids in eight island districts between now and 2010, according
to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The plan has included a forecast of power demand for socio-economic development
and national defence in the districts, namely Co To (Quang Ninh province), Bach
Long Vi ( Hai Phong City ), Con Co (Quang Tri province), Ly Son (Quang Ngai
province), Phu Quy (Binh Thuan), Con Dao (Ba Ria-Vung Tau province), Phu Quoc and
Kien Hai (Kien Giang province).

Wind, sun and diesel generators will be sources of power for the islands. Phu
Quoc, however, will be supplied by the national grid via a 53km undersea cable
system, which will be built in the 2011-2015 period.-Enditem
