Iran urges immediate cessation of Israeli raids on Gazans

Tehran, Jan 5, IRNA - Iran on Monday called for urgent action to stop Israeli
indiscriminate bombardment of Gaza Strip and lifing the blockade on
Gaza.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi on said Monday that Tehran
welcomes two major steps to be guaranteed by the international
community; an urgent cessation of Israeli raids on Gazans and lifting
the economic blockade on Gaza.

Talking to reporters during his weekly press briefing, he said the
world public opinion expect the Arab and Islamic states, in particular
Egypt, to make greater efforts to help settle the humanitarian crisis
in Gaza.

He reiterated that due to the presence of great personalities among
the previous Egyptian leaders and the country?s special geographical
situation as well as existence of Rafah border point, Cairo is much
more expected to take further steps to ease the humanitarian crisis in
Gaza and help the civilians living there.
