Minister receives ILO regional deputy director

Manama, Dec. 1 (BNA): Labour and Social Development Minister, Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, received the International Labour Organisation (ILO)'s Regional Deputy Director cum Director of Technical Cooperation for Appropriate Work Programme, Frank Hagmann. Humaidan and Hagmann explored the ILO's technical support and cooperation programmes. Bahrain benefits from the Organization's technical expertise in boosting basic labour rights and the improvement of health conditions and safety at workstations. The minister praised the advanced level of ILO's ongoing cooperation and support in the course of Bahrain's implementation of several pilot projects for development of local labour regulations and legislations, the creation and development of unemployment insurance system, and the steps taken by the kingdom to equally protect national and expatriate workers' rights. As part of the partnership with the ILO, Hagmann reviewed the technical support programmes provided by the ILO to the kingdom, including development of policies, control systems, work inspection, vocational safety and health, in addition to ILO's supporting Bahrain in the area of statistics and labour market indices as well as various other developmental programmes in the field of social protection. The ILO has chosen Bahrain as one of the most advanced countries for its implementation of appropriate work standards. Bahrain has been chosen among eight international experiences in this field to receive ILO's technical support in view of their fertile legislative grounds and accomplishments achieved in the field of labour relations.
