Budget carrier Eastar Jet to be launched Wednesday

By Nam Kwang-sik
SEOUL, Jan. 5 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's new budget carrier Eastar Jet Co. said
Monday that it plans to provide flight services on a domestic route starting
Wednesday.

Eastar Jet will offer flight services eight times a day on the route between
Gimpo, a city near Seoul and Jeju, the nation's southernmost resort city of Jeju,
the company said.
The carrier established in 2007 plans to fly on routes to Vietnam and Japan from
next year, it added.
As of January, three budget carriers -- Jeju Air Co., Jin Air Co. and AirBusan
Co. -- offer domestic flight services.
Amid a deepening economic downturn, Hansung Airlines, the country's first budget
carrier, suspended flight services in mid-October last year, while another budget
carrier Yeongnam Air Co., went belly-up early in December.
