Atiyyah, Ihsanoglu condemn Israel's ground offensive on Gaza
Riyadh, Jan 5, 2009 (WAM) - Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul Rahman Bin Hamad Al Atiyyah has strongly condemned Israel's ground offensive into Gaza.
Calling it a brutal act of crime perpetrated against the people of Palestine, Atiyyah said that this is the consequence of the international silence towards the Israeli dictatorship.
Atiyyah called on the powerful countries to take a decision in the Security Council ordering Israel to immediately stop the inhuman atrocities.
On another level, the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu condemned in Jeddah the Israeli ground war on the Gaza strip.
He asked the world community to stop Israel from this offensive, which throws away all human values, laws and international conventions by way of targeting innocent civilians.
Ihsanoglu said that in the wake of the failure of the Security Council to take a decision asking Israel to halt the war, the executive committee of OIC, which met in Jeddah, has asked all peace-loving nations to unite and make a joint call at the UN General Assembly to stop the Israeli aggression.
