Abu Dhabi, Jan 5, 2009 (WAM) - The Abu Dhabi Department of Planning and Economy (DPE) has received department-wide ISO 9001:2000 certification, an internationally recognised certificate for quality assurance from Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Limited.

Nasser Bin Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Planning and Economy received the accreditation certificate from Basem Obaid, Lloyd's Area Manager in the presence of Mohammed Omar, DPE Undersecretary and a number of local dignitaries and senior DPE management.

DPE first received the ISO 9001:2000 certification for its commercial services sector in April 2006 and then for its support services sector in July 2007. DPE employees have since reviewed and updated processes across the rest of the department to meet international management standards of quality as measured by the International Organization for Standards (ISO).

During a ceremony held by the Department to mark the occasion, Mohammed Omar, DPE Undersecretary said: 'The Department has met the required standards and qualifications for this certification by following the overall agenda for the Abu Dhabi Government and the vision of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces for governmental authorities to adopt and implement the concept of excellence and accountability.

'This achievement is also a result of the guidance and full support of HE Nasser Bin Ahmed Alsuwaidi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Planning and Economy, as well as the effort that the Department took in implementing internationally recognized quality methods and systems to improve its practices to provide comprehensive, accurate and efficient services', he added.

Khalifa Hamad Al Khaili, Executive Director of Corporate Support, said, 'The Department received the ISO certification after a thorough examination of all its areas of operation that affect quality, right from the supporting services to customers' services such as issuing trading licenses, categorizing contractors, registering consultants, studies, planning and statistics'.

Mouza Mohamed Al Qubaisi, Director of Corporate Development, asserted: 'Lloyd's auditors got first-hand experience of the Department's well-defined operational objectives and clearly stated short-term and long-term strategies. In order to assure the best service, the Department has set certain standards for its employees in its different sections to cover all sectors'.
