MTT, BCCI discuss land transport sector regulation

Manama, Nov. 23 (BNA): Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed has met representatives of taxi companies, local transport companies, and car rental companies to discuss proposed regulations for the industry and to obtain their input. The meeting was part of the ministry's strategic plan to develop land transportation services, and in line with the directives issued by the Cabinet to involve the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) in the review of Ministerial decrees. The proposed ministerial decrees have been drafted based on the new Traffic Law. "Following the issuance of the new Traffic Law, the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) aims to restructure and develop the land transport sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain to enhance the level of transport services, covering taxis, rental cars, local transport, and the transportation of goods," the minister said. He pointed out that the Ministry’s role is to support and enable newly established companies in this field by facilitating the licensing process, which in turn contributes to creating suitable job opportunities for Bahrainis. He then listened to the feedback from the participants and opened the floor for questions, stressing that the Ministry values stakeholder input and considers them wherever possible. He thanked the attendees for taking part in the session with constructive and effective contribution, which MTT considers a critical success factor in improving the sector and creating optimum conditions for businesses operating or setting up in Bahrain. The meeting was attended by Mariam Ahmed Jumaan, Undersecretary of Land Transport and Post Affairs and the Deputy Director of the Transport Committee at the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdul Wahid Qarata.
