Abadi Discusses With Putin, By Telephone Call, Anti-Terrorism Efforts, Finding A Political Solution In Syria

BAGHDAD / NINA / Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi discussed with the Russian President Vladimir Putin, by telephone, efforts to combat terrorism, and to find a political solution in Syria. The Information Office of the Prime Minister said in a press release: "Abadi held a telephone conversation with the Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he offered his condolences to the Government and the people of Russia for the unfortunate incident which caused the fall of the Russian plane in Sinai." The statement added: "Abadi discussed, during the call, the efforts to find a political solution to the situation in Syria and the results of the Vienna conference, which was held last Friday, calling for intensified efforts to activate the mechanisms of the solution in Syria." The statement noted: "The Russian president has supported this trend, and stressed the need to expand joint efforts in the fight against terrorism." Putin stressed the importance of strengthening relations with Iraq, which recently reflected in the detailed discussions that took place in New York City between the two countries. / End
