Kia Motors' 2008 vehicle sales rise 2.9 pct

SEOUL, Jan. 2 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's second-largest
automaker, said Friday its vehicle sales gained 2.9 percent in 2008 from a year
earlier on strong domestic demand, despite slumping exports.
Kia Motors sold a total of 1.4 million units last year, the company said in a
regulatory filing. Domestic sales gained 16.2 percent to 316,432 units, but
exports declined 0.4 percent to 1.08 million units on slumping global demand.
In December, the carmaker sold 126,595 units, up 3 percent from a year ago, it
added.
