Renault Samsung's 2008 auto sales rise 14.4 pct

SEOUL, Jan. 2 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean unit of French automaker Renault SA
said Friday its vehicle sales grew 14.4 percent in 2008 from a year earlier on
the back of brisk exports.
Renault Samsung Motor Co. said in a statement that it sold a total of 197,024
units last year, the highest sales figure since its inception in September 2000,
with exports soaring 73 percent to 95,043 units.
In December, however, sales fell 17.5 percent annually on weak domestic demand,
with domestic sales reaching 9,201 units and exports totaling 15,581 units, it
said.
