1951 -- South Korea's government begins pre-censorship on publications

2007 -- Ban Ki-moon, a South Korean diplomat, starts his work as the Secretary
General of the United Nations. Ban was elected as the eighth Secretary-General by
the U.N. General Assembly. On Jan. 1, 2007, he succeeded Kofi Annan, and passed
several major reforms regarding peacekeeping and U.N. employment practices.
